My original harddrive finally died, it lasted 6 years 2 months (Maxtor 80GB). New hard drive is a western digital 500GB. I backed up almost everything, a few items I wish I had remembered/known how to backup-
My list of favs/bookmarks
My playlists
My music ratings
A couple save game files
A couple registry keys for games I no longer have the disk/cd key for

Current state of my lathe-

The headstock needs to be recast, it has a horrible shrink cavity. The bed is complete. The carriage is very nearly complete, just need to make some decent feed screws.

As some of you may or may not know, I have begun building my own metal shop using the book series "Build your own metal shop from scrap". Link to book series- http://www.lindsaybks.com/dgjp/djgbk/series/index.html

Last summer I finished book 1, the foundry.
My furnace- http://pfrc.students.mtu.edu/mediawiki/images/e/e0/Furnace.JPG
Molten aluminum- http://pfrc.students.mtu.edu/mediawiki/images/a/a2/Melt.JPG

Now I am on book 2, the metal lathe. So far I have a handful of patterns made and I have cast the mounting bases. Pic- http://pfrc.students.mtu.edu/mediawiki/images/1/1a/Bases.JPG

and now i was able to shave $10 off the project by making my own set screw collars, woo!

Dead Snow is released in US theaters this friday www.deadsnow.com

Also found a papercraft model of a VII C U-Boat (the one in Das Boot)
http://only-paper.ru/news/2009-06-04-3289
So now I can build a 1:72 scale paper u-boat. But this also means that I now have the sheet metal layout for all the panels in the hull... So what if I made it bigger? If I scaled it up 4x (1' x 12')it would be big enough that I could make it out of steel and it would be one hell of a model boat. If I scaled it up 10x it would be about 18" wide, wide enough to be used as a kayak. Of course it would also be 30' long and the prop would be the same size as one on a small motor boat... This is going to be expensive.

Oh yeah, new hobby, papercraft. Super cheap, no special tools required. First attempt was a shambler (from the original quake), built it over the course of 2 days, came out pretty good.

Next im going to try the quake marine, then one of the Lara Croft models.

Step 1: Put your iTunes on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: When someone guesses correctly put their name with the song.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!!!
I don't have iTunes so I used WMP

1. You'd rather have wine than gin, only the finest by your skin
2. First off she's a lady, this is a ladies' world
3. Es war um 1860 und es war in Wien die Zeit war schrecklich keiner hatte etwas anzuziehen
4. Your Butt Is Mine Gonna Tell You Right Just Show Your Face In Broad Daylight
5. Desde una estrella al titilar...Me hará señales de acudir, Por una luz de eternidad Cuando me llame, voy a ir.

7.
bah, forget it, I don't even know half of these songs...

I just got hired to work at the sugar factory. I guess that will allow me to get a little money before heading back to tech. Rough estimate $1200. I might be able to get a HK USP 45 tactical with that.

Well I finally got my furnace done. Got it fired today, some small cracks formed in the refractory and water was running out the tweer, not sure where that came from. Temperature got up to around 1700 F (950 C). Crucible done, crucible tongs done, molding sand sort of tempered, flasks, molding boards, sprue pins, rapper, vent wire, finished. Just need a strike off bar, lifter, probably should improve the tweer, skimmer, and a handful of other molding tools. If i can get some patterns made i should be able to start poring molten aluminum this weekend.
